Common text scam scripts.

Texts claiming you owe an unpaid toll (E-ZPass, FasTrak, SunPass) with a link to 'pay.' The link goes to a phishing page that steals your card or installs malware.

A 'package held' or 'address issue' text from USPS, UPS, or FedEx with a link. The link never reaches the carrier — it harvests payment and personal details.

A text pretending to be your bank about a 'suspicious charge,' asking you to confirm or call a number. The number or link reaches the scammer, not the bank.

A friendly 'wrong number' text that builds a relationship over weeks, then pushes a fake crypto or forex 'investment' platform that drains your money.

Unsolicited 'work from home' or task-based pay offers that end in advance-fee requests, fake checks, or money-mule recruitment.

Threats of arrest, frozen Social Security, or benefit suspension. Real agencies never text threats or demand gift cards or crypto.

Promises to 'forgive' or 'pause' your student loans for a fee. Only your servicer or StudentAid.gov can change your loans — never pay a third party upfront.

Offers to cut or settle your debt for an upfront fee while harvesting your financial details. Real relief is free through your servicer or a NFCC counselor.

Unsolicited crypto 'tips,' 'investment managers,' or 'recovery' services. These almost always recruit victims into fake trading platforms.

You 'won' a prize, gift card, or giveaway but must pay a fee or shipping to claim it. Legitimate prizes never require payment up front.
